On the way back down, Judy and I were chatting and walking along in front of Rick and Roger when the boys started sort of yelling softly “Girls, Bear, Girls, Bear” We finally realized that there was a large black bear about 20 feet in front of us in the middle of the trail. When we saw him, we froze for a second. And then, the picture taker in Judy grabbed her camera and started taking pictures. Even through we were quite frightened, the bear took very little notice of us an sauntered off into the woods. We promptly named the bear Yogi Jerr (Yogi for obvious reasons and Jerr for the four of us JudyEllenRogerRick. About 20 minutes later as we were leaving the trail head in our Jeep, we encountered a female moose. Since it was daughter Rebecca Jane’s birthday (July 22nd), we named the moose Janewinkle (surely a close relative of Bullwinkle). We also saw a herd of elk and a very large heard of buffalo—both amazing sightings!
