Days 10—12, Tuesday, June 22nd through Thursday, June 24th
Between Illinois and Idaho, we listened to audio books and watched the gorgeous scenery. We really only made one main stop, which was at the Pioneer Village museum in Minden, Nebraska. We started seeing signs for the museum when we about half way through Nebraska on Highway 80. We decided, since it was only about 11 miles off the Interstate, it would be a good, quick break. It turned out to be a good break, but not a quick one! The museum consisted of 26 buildings, many which were between 50 and 100 yards long and had two stories. Since we were only stopping for a quick break, we planned to go through as quickly as we could just looking at the items without reading much of the information. Five and a half hours later, we were exhausted from hurrying for so long. We were also absolutely amazed at the items amassed in this small obscure Nebraska town. There was an old-time village, pus buildings full of old cars, tractors, household rooms, and small collections, such as salt and pepper shakers and ink pens, sculptures, needle work, and more. The museum has both a campground and a hotel on its property, and we would seriously recommend staying there and making it two-full-days. We, of course, couldn’t do that since we were just passing through!
